Riad al-Asaad, founder of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), one of the main opposition groups during the 13-year Syrian civil war, says that although the recent ousting of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “has produced some factions”, they now strive to unite the rebel groups. The FSA founder also hopes that Russia, a key ally of the Assad regime, “will abandon this hostility and be a friend of the Syrian people”. Russia is currently providing sanctuary to the ousted president and his family. |
