This week, our Sport and Protective Services students swapped the classroom for Carlisle Castle as they explored Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life! From marching through history to diving into an interactive session on British Values and Prevent, they got hands-on with the principles that shape our society—and had a blast doing it. The keep at Carlisle Castle was either completed or rebuilt from scratch on the orders of David I of Scotland. Henry I of England had previously started the building of the keep. This evening the Baton of Hope travelled through Carlisle - The Baton Of Hope is a national suicide prevention initiative founded in memory of young adults lost to suicide. Its aim is the spark conversations, combat stigma and encourage practical interventions that save lives. The Baton was met at Carlisle East Fire Station by Andys Man Club and members of the public supporting the initiative. Carlisle Cathedral The cathedral at Carlisle can be seen from many areas of Carlisle, especially in the city centre. Life for the cathedral started out as a Norman Priory Church in 1122, eleven years later it became a cathedral. It was probably built on the foundations of an earlier church which was ravaged by Viking attacks and stood as a ruin.
