Strelitzia Reginae, aka “Bird of Paradise” is a plant native to my home country of South Africa. The Xhosa name is Ikhamanga, which means “it’s a scam” which I think is funny as the flower resembles a bird. The Afrikaans word is Kraanvoëlblom which translates to “crane bird flower”. The scientific term “Stretlitzia reginae” was coined by Sir Joseph Banks of @kewgardens who dedicated the plant to the wife of King George III of England, Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Stretlitz, who was a big fan o
