Americans Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton, two of the world’s best singles players, are teaming up to play doubles at the DC Open this week.

WASHINGTON, DC—Still she rises: Venus Williams is back in orbit after over a year away from the game, winning her first match since 2023 alongside Hailey Baptiste in doubles at the Mubadala Citi DC Open.

Poland's Magdalena Frech and Magda Linette, the only two seeded players in action on Monday, earned straight-set wins in the first round of the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington.

Frances Tiafoe is one of the top-ranked Americans in action at the 2025 Citi DC Open, alongside the likes of Venus Williams, Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz.

In just his 10th match since 2022, Nick Kyrgios appears injured, as limps through a 58-minute doubles loss alongside Gael Monfils at the DC Open.

Tiafoe has traditionally used the DC Open as a launch pad the last three summers, channeling the American crowd’s enthusiasm for his particular brand of showmanship into two US Open semifinals and a Masters 1000 final in Cincinnati. After an earlier-than-expected exit from Wimbledon, Tiafoe is eager for more of the same in 2025.

Ben Shelton climbed up a spot on the ATP rankings without lifting his racket last week, and now he's ready for the American hard court season.
