Despite trade interest around the league, the Twins are expected to keep All-Star starter Joe Ryan, who’s posting his best season yet.
The Twins enjoyed a stroll in the ballpark Sunday, waltzing to a 7-1 victory over the walk-happy Rockies. Colorado pitchers issued four leadoff walks — three by starter German Marquez — and Minnesota hit four home runs, denying Colorado a rare three-game sweep at Coors Field.
Ryan generated 18 whiffs, including 13 on his four-seam fastball, navigating the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field with ease. After giving up a solo home run to Mickey Moniak in the third inning, his lone blemish of the afternoon, Ryan retired 12 of the final 14 batters he faced while registering a season-high-tying 11 strikeouts.
The Boston Red Sox want Joe Ryan, and the door may be open for a trade given the Minnesota Twins' current ownership problems.
Right-handed starting pitcher Joe Ryan is in his fifth season with the Minnesota Twins after being selected in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. Ryan was acquired by Minnesota in July 2021 as part of the Nelson Cruz trade and made his MLB debut that September.

Minnesota Sports Fan on MSNTo Whom It May Concern: Good Luck Prying Joe Ryan Out of MinnesotaJust because there is interest doesn’t mean the Minnesota Twins should meet the demand. Ryan is under team control through 2027, and while it’s possible he could get expensive in arbitration, his 2025 salary is just $3 million. If the Twins want to reload next year, then keeping a top arm to pair with Lopez makes a ton of sense.
The Colorado Rockies (23-74) and Minnesota Twins (47-50) will clash on Sunday at Coors Field, starting at 3:10 p.m. ET. The Rockies are an underdog at home (+163) versus the Twins (-198). The Twins will give the ball to Joe Ryan (9-4) against the Rockies and German Marquez (3-10).
