Amazon may be set to return to making smartphones, over a decade after the Fire Phone's failure.

The latest effort, known internally as “Transformer,” is being developed within Amazon's devices and services unit, according to four people familiar with the matter.

The company envisions the new device connecting to its Alexa voice assistant platform as well as being another way for the retail behemoth to reach its customers, Reuters reported.
