Mayor Joe Cobb also made a proclamation declaring July 5, 2025 as “Booker T. Washington Park Day” in honor of its cultural significance and historical value to Roanoke.

A special lecture will take place at Roanoke’s Washington Park on Thursday at 6 p.m., offering a deep dive into the park’s rich history.

A 4-year-old was bitten by a mountain lion while hiking with family in Olympic National Park. Officials say the child’s father intervened and helped stop the attack.
