A car explosion killed at least 10 people near a metro station at the landmark Red Fort monument in the Indian capital region of Delhi on Monday, according to a hospital official.

The blast, which triggered a fire that damaged several vehicles parked nearby, was reported near one of the gates of the Red Fort metro station, the fire services said.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha told reporters that the incident happened at around 18:52 local time (13:52 GMT), when a slow moving vehicle stopped at a red light before it exploded.
