The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency yesterday confirmed the revisions to the test, which include following directions from a sat nav and testing different manoeuvres.

A new type of driving test that includes following directions on a sat-nav system is being trialled around the UK.

In the biggest shake-up of the driving test in the UK since the 1996 introduction of the theory test, drivers will now be asked to follow instructions and navigate around using the device.

Earlier in 2025 the practical driving test saw tweaks mainly centred around fewer stops – particularly emergency stops – and spending more time following directions from a sat-nav.
