The Sugar beach area, except for a stretch further west, is relatively clear of coral reefs. However, the wave action is mild, less dramatic, and not a snorkeling area compared to the Ka'anapali/Napili area. In addition, standup paddling can easily be done (activities center next door) and canoe club paddlers practice off shore every morning. For a nominal fee you can go out and paddle with members and even take a dip when they take a rest stop.
